new mastering equipment

Hi,

I'm very excited to tell you about some serious upgrades to the studio's mastering equipment list!

(2) Lipinski L-707 Monitors
(1) Lipinski L-150 Sub
(1) Lipinski S-250 Sub amp with remote
(1) Lavry Blue 44964 Stereo A/D Converter
(1) Lavry Black DA10 Stereo D/A Converter
(1) Studer B67 1/4, 15ips analog mastering tape machine

What does all this mean for projects? With last spring's upgrades to the listening environment (total renovation of the studio and the addition of bass traps, absorbers and diffusion for accurate monitoring of the low end and minimizing flutter echo), this upgrade to really solid mastering monitors will help ensure masters sound better and translate better than ever.

From the Lipinski website:
For many years prior to the creation of Lipinski Sound, Andrew's "golden ear" talent was a creative force behind pro-audio equipment manufacturers such as Telefunken USA and Mytek Digital. He has also consulted for High End audiophile companies.

Andrew Lipinski's perfect hearing abilities were recognized by the US National Bureau of Standards, where he was the only individual to achieve a perfect score on the listening evaluation of phonographic recordings. "...one listener achieving a perfect score...""A score of 10 correct of 10 selections would be expected 1 out of 1000 times" - National Bureau of Standards (NBSIR 88-3725) on Mr. Lipinski's score.

"Quite some time ago, I came to the realization that if I had a limitless budget to spend on the best playback and recording equipment in the world, I would have nothing to buy that would truly satisfy my ear, or the ears of audiophiles and other discerning engineers. Therefore, to meet my personal needs as a professionally active recording engineer and producer, I started to modify the equipment of my choice, and eventually began building my own components. Lipinski Sound products are a culmination of not only a few decades of research and development, but an all-out, consistent, aggressive, pursuit of perfection within the art of sound recording that has spanned my entire lifetime."

I can't express just how stunning the L-707 speakers are to listen to and work with!

The Lavry converters will allow analog processing of digital masters without compromise (transfers from digital to analog and back through cheap converters). The Lavry Blue is also an excellent tool for achieving master volume levels in ways that frequently sound more musical than extreme digital compression.

The Studer is just a new mix down deck given to me by WGBH in Boston. But if you have 1/4" masters...
